You are invited to attend Deakin University’s 2015 David Parkin Oration for Sport and Social Change, delivered by The Hon Jeff Kennett AC.
The annual oration honours the significant contribution of David Parkin OAM to Australian society in leadership, sport and education and promotes the advancement of public knowledge by exploring the challenges and opportunities for sport to act as a driver of social change.
At this year’s Oration ‘Professionalism of sport – a threat to good health’ Mr Kennett will reflect on his work with beyondblue to address the impact that sport and sporting figures can play in raising awareness of depression and anxiety. Following his political career where he held the office of Premier of Victoria for eight years, Mr Kennett has continued to influence and inspire the nation with vision, passion and leadership. During his time as President of the Hawthorn Football Club he led the team to their first Premiership in 16 years and as founding Chairman of beyondblue he continues to kick goals in raising public awareness to change the attitudes of the wider community towards mental health.
The David Parkin Oration is a free public event that looks to promote the advancement of public knowledge by exploring the challenges and opportunities for sport to act as a driver of social change.
