A new way of thinking
With more than 90 years’ experience developing and making vaccines and plasma protein biotherapies, CSL has a heritage of contribution to medicine and human health.
It also has over 10,000 staff in 27 countries, including major facilities in Australia, Germany, Switzerland and the US.
In 2002, CSL identified a set of values common to its many business units:
- customer focus
- superior performance
These values set a foundation for working across the organisation and formed a common ‘touchstone’ decision-making tool for its many diverse operations.
Having defined this culture, CSL next wanted to help its people live it.
Living the dream
CSL partnered with DeakinPrime to develop the Graduate Certificate of Corporate Management (GCCM).
Delivered via a mix of online, face-to-face and self-paced distance learning modes, the GCCM addressed the fundamental management areas of strategy, people, leadership, innovation and operational improvement.
It thus reinforced CSL’s vision for growth while enabling participants to develop new ways of enhancing present and future business and performance.
This GCCM gave CSL staff access to ongoing professional development as well as the opportunity to experience personal growth through improved job performance. In particular, the qualification let staff with a technical background broaden their skills into a more general management base.
In light of the above, CSL staff were extremely enthusiastic about completing the course. It wasn’t long before positive results were seen across the organisation.
Building on this success, DeakinPrime began working with CSL to deliver a senior management program to meet both the strategic growth agenda of the organisation and the specific development needs of participants from diverse educational and professional backgrounds.
